My topic is about nature vs nurture and I am siding more with nurture. I will be explaining how three serial killers were influenced and with using that kind of explain the do's and don'ts for parents and children about the environment. It is a bit extreme, but the environment plays a huge role so I plan to go to extreme to show how extreme outcomes can be.

We need to turn to another solution because there are multiple types of intelligences, teachers are more likely to teach to the test, and standardized examinations led to discrimination. I am discussing the forethought of mass media harming child development and their intellectual skills. I'm arguing the contrary, to show how this idea is flawed and how some forms of mass media may indeed help or 'boost' child development.
Adan, by child development do you mean mass media for elementary to higher education? some people would argue that mass media would change child's way of thinking. Children at young age will start depending on mass media and not be able to have there own thoughts nor ideas. Mass media at the right level of education like ( high school, college ) sounds better because by then the child has developed the skills on his own, mass media will just tweak the ideas.
I agree and support your arguement on how mass media can help or boost a child's development because there are as many flaws of the original classroom teaching environment. For example, many teachers lead and enforce biased opinions on specific matters that are in text books, while mass media allows the mind to have an open mind and leaves the individual to make the final interpretation and allows them to maximize their productiveness.
What I am attempting to do in my research is to make a the case that scientific literacy must be more effectively promoted, regardless of what you believe in, true knowledge should never be hampered. Part of my argument will be to point out that we are all born with a sense of exploration and curiosity for the world, and that we should strive to reignite that sense of exploration in society. This is a short inspirational video by Jason Silva, a performance artist and futuristic philosopher. He talks about the childlike state of wonder that we should all strive to gain.

A student in my group is some what doing the same thing in the way that he is going to write about hooligans in soccer and how they are ruining the sport of the sport. My topic is on Drunk Driving, and how society as a whole has failed to enforce the restrictions/consequences of Drunk Driving. I feel that Drunk Driving is being overlooked, and that it is not being viewed like the crime that it is I feel like this is because society is not aware, it is not active, and it does not promote groups, and such like: M.A.D.D who are trying to make people aware of how severe Drunk Driving can be. I chose this video because I feel like it does a good job in getting its point across, it isn't too disgusting, and because it is done by an organization promoting the awareness of drunk driving.

I like your topic, and I would have to agree with Melaine that commercials don't get people to see how dangerous drunk driving really is. Melaine has a good idea, but I don't think people would go for that. You have to find a way to open their eyes to see that drunk driving is a terrible thing. I think you can talk about how it would be better in getting a taxi after knowing they had to much to drink.
My research topic is the low awareness migrant students have of the scholarships that UTPA offers
Seeing the changes in job criteria today "migrant working experience" is not one of them. Migrant children need to know they have the opportunity for higher education instead of thinking there only option is following there family's foot steps. My research paper will alert the school system and the Society in general to be more understanding and sympathetic to the needs of migrant children. Though I may agree with some of his arguments, they are many people do not have the desire to even test their limits. The human mind is capable of achieving anything they want in life. it all starts with imagination.
My topic is on bullying and I am completely against bullying.. in my topic, I'm mostly concentrating on how their mentality changes after being bullied for a while. there are few people who have been brought up thinking bullying will just build character. but there are other people who are just angry and bully others. I want to know what a person thinks or thought after being bullied, and how they feel or felt. I chose this video because after being bullying he decided to give up on life... and like I said I want to know how their mentality changes.

I know that when I took the ACT and other tests like that I was freaking out because it was timed, I usually fall asleep and I know that if it were not timed I would have done a lot better than I did. That's a great topic, something every student can relate to some degree. I remember being in high school and so much pressure was added by out teachers and counselors to do well, simply because if we didn't we would fail in life. I never remember any of them saying its okay if your great isn't perfect, or try to relax its just a test.

My topic is how social media is increasing depression in the United States. Is knowing too much about someone or something effecting our moods? Is posting and commenting on strangers lives helping us or destroying us?
Probably not helping, you can find a lot of cases of teen suicide over social media, it's just too easy for people to electronically interact with people's lives even if the person wouldn't of wanted that someone to know too much about them to begin with.
I feel social media is destroying us. There's no filter anymore, people get used to putting their whole lives on a website for everyone to see starting from a young age. I feel that there are some pros to social media, but that there are more cons. Our generation has become obsessed with social media sites, its all people think or care about now a days. They're more concerned with working on what kind of a person they look like on their social media profiles than the type of person they are in real life.
My topic will be about schools caring more about their reputation than their student's safety. Do some school care more about their reputation/"themselves" than their student's safety and well being? I recently read this article, (http://goo.gl/sVwBfv), it is about a female college student who was raped by another college student and the rapist was not reprimanded and remains at the school. The victim has actually been put through more than the rapist and as her senior visual arts thesis she will carry around the mattress she was raped on every single day until her rapist is gone, it is a symbol for "carrying the weight" of all she has been through. The article has reminded me of the many cases I've read about some schools putting themselves over their student's safety and well being. Some schools have continually mishandled sexual assault cases, bullying cases, and other cases that have deeply affected their students. Which brings the questioning to: Why? Do they care more about "themselves" far more than they care about the safety of their students? Why are they willing to protect the rapist and re-victimize the victim? Their needs to be a change.
Of course schools care more about their reputation. People (students and parents) want the best and with rape on the schools resume, they will lose peoples interest, and most importantly what they care about most, MONEY! They lose thousands for every student that turns them down. They would rather deny the rape accusations than face it and have themselves labeled as an "unsafe" school. Law and Order: SVU season 14 episode 20, pretty much sums up this situation.
My topic is how pursuing a higher education is like a super power, it comes with huge responsibility, can be used to help society,or ultimately crush it. I also believe that whilst it is constantly pursued by many to achieve a higher form of living, if all original or all motives are lost, the pursuit can easily transform into the downfall of ones future plans or education.
My topic is on how standardized tests don't actually test your level of intelligence but rather your level of memorization, and how fast you can complete a test. A student that can't even manage to complete their homework in high school is able to score high on the ACT or SAT as long as they study SAT/ACT prep books, or take prep courses. On the other hand, a student with a high level of intelligence that easily understands all the subject matter that was studied in school can easily do poorly on the SAT/ACT simply because they're not fast test takers, or because they don't remember some of the subject matter. Now what is more valued in a work place and/or in college; someone who is intelligent, competent, and has common sense, or someone that can finish a test really fast? Do you think standardized tests like the SAT and ACT should be changed? Why or why not?
Why did the have to teach us stuffs in high school that we don't need in college instead of teaching us necessary skills for life,like communication skills, organization skills, something that will separate our resumes from others, because most of the schools they still graduating people every year ut they fall in the employment pool because they dont give us the skills/experience that we need for life.
